Clinical Partner, Welsh Carson Anderson and Stowe
Paul Taheri, MD, MBA, is a clinical partner on the healthcare team at Welsh Carson Anderson and Stowe (WCAS), having joined in 2021. He focuses on physician governance, leadership development, quality of care and clinical delivery optimization across the various WCAS portfolio companies. The goal of his efforts are to ensure all WCAS companies deliver outstanding care to the millions of patients they serve each year. Dr. Taheri sits on the boards of US Anesthesia Partners, Trinity Health System, Care Evolution and The Health Management Academy, a strategic partner of WCAS that provides research, knowledge sharing and leadership development to leading health systems and healthcare companies.
Prior to joining WCAS full-time, Dr. Taheri was the Chief Executive Officer of Yale Medicine – the faculty practice plan for Yale University – and a Deputy Dean for Clinical Affairs at the Yale School of Medicine. He joined Yale Medicine from the University of Vermont (UVM), where he was President and CEO of the UVM Medical Group and Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, as well as a professor of surgery. Prior to UVM, he was Division Chief of Trauma, Burn and Critical Care, and Vice Chair of Surgery at University of Michigan.
He has had multiple leadership roles in professional societies and is the past chair of the Group on Faculty Practices for the Association of American Medical Colleges and has been an examiner for the American Board of Surgery. He has lectured broadly on various business topics, including cost of care, physician leadership and system optimizations, and retains a teaching role at the Yale School of Management.
Dr. Taheri earned his bachelor’s degree at St. Lawrence University, majoring in Biology/Chemistry; his MD at the New York University School of Medicine; and his MBA at the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.
