We welcome students and young people to explore healthcare careers through a number of different exploration programs.

Dartmouth Health welcomes students and young people to learn and explore healthcare careers through a number of different exploration programs. Learn about programs at the following Dartmouth Health system members:

At Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital

  • Job shadowing: Job shadows are typically 1- to 2-day experiences where an observer “shadows” someone in the healthcare field to get a sense of how their job works. Observers may be of any level of experience, from high school and college students to experienced practitioners. To schedule a job shadow experience at Alice Peck Day, email #humanresources@apdmh.org.

At Cheshire Medical Center

  • Job shadowing: Job shadows are typically 1- to 2-day experiences where an observer “shadows” someone in the healthcare field to get a sense of how their job works. Observers may be of any level of experience, from high school and college students to experienced practitioners.

At Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Dartmouth Hitchcock Clinics

  • Allied Health Exploration (AHEx) Program: This program offers high school students and recent graduates the chance to explore careers through speakers, experiential opportunities, and our shadowing program. To learn more about the AHEx program, please email studentexperiences@hitchcock.org.
  • Student observations: Observations give students the opportunity to accompany an employee during the normal course of their job responsibilities for career exploration or educational purposes. Typically, observation experiences are no longer than one 8-hour shift. Please note: Observers must identify the department of interest and arrange the shadow opportunity directly with a Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center or Dartmouth Hitchcock Clinics staff member prior to submitting a request. We do not arrange individual observation opportunities. Observers must be 18 years of age by the date of the observation experience.

At Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center

  • Daring to Care: This 7-week volunteer program is offered during the summer each year and is open to junior and senior high school students in the Upper Valley area. As a Daring to Care volunteer, students learn firsthand what it is like to work in a busy, modern hospital, assisting patients, families, and staff every day. Students gain experience that will enhance their high school resume and college application.

At Valley Regional Hospital

Students and other learners looking for shadowing or career exploration experiences at Valley Regional Hospital can contact Jessica Morin at jessica.morin@vrh.org or 603-542-3426.
