We are proud to play an important role in developing and educating the next generation of nursing professionals.

We are proud to play an important role in developing and educating the next generation of nursing professionals. We offer the following programs for students currently enrolled in an accredited nursing degree program:

At Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital

  • Job shadowing: Job shadows are typically 1- to 2-day experiences where an observer “shadows” someone in the healthcare field to get a sense of how their job works. Observers may be of any level of experience, from high school and college students to experienced practitioners. To schedule a job shadow experience, email #humanresources@apdmh.org.
  • Student Nurse Senior Practicum Program: This program for senior nursing students of accredited BSN degree programs serves as a culmination of their knowledge, skills, and experience. To apply for this opportunity, work with your school clinical coordinator to connect through the Centralized Nursing Clinical Placement Services website.

At Cheshire Medical Center

  • Job shadowing: Job shadows are typically 1- to 2-day experiences where an observer “shadows” someone in the healthcare field to get a sense of how their job works. Observers may be of any level of experience, from high school and college students to experienced practitioners.
  • New England College (NEC) partnership: Students from NEC’s 3-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program are selected for this cooperative clinical experience at Cheshire Medical Center. This model pairs core nursing education with on-the-job learning and employment throughout the program. During this 14-week cooperative clinical experience clinical experience, students will earn credits toward their degree while they work as Licensed Nursing Assistants (LNAs) and earn a salary from Cheshire Medical Center.

This experience really pushed me out of my comfort zone and strengthened my nursing practice. Coming out of this program, I felt much more confident going into my last year of nursing school with the valuable patient interaction that I had gained this summer. I gained valuable feedback from the nurses on my floor as well as from the learning sessions that were included in the program.

At Visiting Nurse and Hospice for Vermont and New Hampshire

Visiting Nurse and Hospice for Vermont and New Hampshire looks forward to hosting nursing students for a unique education experience in home health and hospice. Students will gain firsthand insight into this growing, important, and meaningful environment of care; build important assessment and decision-making skills; and be a part of delivering care in a one-on-one setting. We are currently affiliated with, and welcome students from, Colby Sawyer College, Vermont State University, and River Valley Community College.

If you are interested in a clinical or practicum experience with our team, please contact Julia Maroney at jmaroney@vnhcare.org for more information.
