A Dartmouth Health psychiatrist was recently presented a prestigious award from the New Hampshire Medical Society (NHMS) at its annual meeting. Jeffrey C. Fetter, MD, received the Advocate of the Year Award, honoring a distinguished physician who demonstrates exceptional commitment to advocating for NHMS’ legislative and policy priorities.
Through Dartmouth Health’s longstanding contract and partnership with the State of New Hampshire to provide New Hampshire Hospital (NHH) clinical services, Fetter serves as chief medical officer for the state’s acute psychiatric institution. His recognition as Advocate of the Year celebrates Fetter’s dedication to advancing the medical profession and advocating on behalf of patients and communities, for the betterment of public health. NHMS noted Fetter’s leadership in the aftermath of a fatal shooting at NHH in November 2023, and his advocacy for the prevention of gun violence in New Hampshire in the year that followed, in selecting him for this award.
Fetter attended medical school at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and completed his medical residency at Dartmouth Health’s Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. Prior to joining Dartmouth Health, he worked for NHH as a state employee, Concord Hospital, the New Hampshire Department of Corrections, and Riverbend Community Mental Health in Concord. He has served as CMO at NHH since 2020. Fetter is an assistant professor of psychiatry at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth.
