About Dartmouth Health's Your Way Forward Patient Story Series

Throughout New Hampshire and Vermont, Dartmouth Health is helping people move forward in their daily lives. We believe each patient’s journey is unique, personal, and deserving of celebration. From a fire marshal battling colorectal cancer, to an avid fisherwoman needing joint replacement surgery, to a pediatric cancer patient who refuses to let his disease define him, the “Your Way Forward” series offers an intimate and compelling view into the worlds of our patients.

Our first patient story series, “Our Patients. Their Stories.” launched at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Dartmouth Hitchcock Clinics in 2015. The new series further expands understanding of the patient experience and reinforces why those spending their careers in healthcare do the work they do. Our Dartmouth Health Communications and Marketing colleague, Kat Barrell, was passionate about empowering patients to share their healthcare journey in their own voices. It brought Kat joy in her work. After a courageous journey with cancer, Kat died peacefully on November 11, 2021. The Communications and Marketing team carries her spirit with them as they undertake this new Dartmouth Health patient story series, “Your Way Forward.”
